A rifle match is a long day in a small space. The match director is at a computer behind the line. A coach is moving lane to lane. An athlete has a phone in a bag and twenty minutes until their relay. A parent is in the stands, or three states away. Over the last month, Nexus has grown to meet each of them on the screen already in their hand.

Before the first relay

On Nexus Desktop, Create Match now opens the same four-step Host Match wizard as Nexus Web: Match, Disciplines, Entries and Review, with classifications, team pre-registration, designated scorers and a match description drafted with AI. Build the match at the range or in the office. It is one wizard either way.

Air Rifle can now run as Sporter and Precision in the same match. Set the first Air Rifle card to Sporter or Precision and add the other class beside it. Registrations, the relay pages and check-in then ask which class each athlete shoots, and Set Class fixes any entry still missing one without touching its relay, lane or scores. Each class keeps its own results and its own records, so a Sporter score never breaks a Precision record. Many JROTC matches run exactly this way. See how Nexus fits a JROTC program.

One screen at the line

The match console is now a single screen for the operator at the line. Table shows the whole firing line: sighters, every ten-shot series and the health of each lane, with a filter for the lanes that need attention. Lanes gives each firing point its own tile, its target filling the tile, above a ticker of the latest shots. The lane grid, a spectator scoreboard and the shot feed each pop out to a second monitor.

Run the match from one computer and every other screen follows it. When a stage starts on the console at the line, a second computer in the office moves with it, down to the stage clock. One device holds control at a time. A match director can take it over, and a claim nobody is using lapses after two minutes.

The same scoreboard on every screen

Live Scoring is now one board, whether you open it in Nexus Web, on Nexus Desktop or on a phone. While a match is live it shows each athlete's predicted finish and the gap to the leader, and a tap switches between integer and decimal. Results show the official score the match's scoring mode calls for, 588 – 32x for an integer match and 616.4 for a decimal one, and the toggle still lets you read the other.

In the athlete's pocket

Match day now reaches the phone in the bag. Nexus Mobile sends four match-day notifications. Each has its own switch under Me › Profile › Notifications, and each opens the page it is about:

  • Your lane is set, five minutes after a lane is assigned, and only if it still stands.
  • Your relay is starting, with the relay and firing point: “Fall Classic: Relay 2, point 14.”
  • Your results are in, when the match total is finalized, not before.
  • New personal best, when a finalized total beats an earlier match: “616.4 in Air Rifle at Fall Classic, up 3.1 from 613.3.”

Guardians receive them too, for the athletes they look after.

On a phone, a match's tabs now read Scoreboard, Registrations, Records and Results. Records lists the organization records and personal bests set at that match, grouped by event and shown in each event's official score.

Every page also got a pass for the thumb. Content sits 16 pixels from the edge, every button and field is 40 to 44 pixels tall, no text is smaller than 12 pixels, and long forms open full screen. The profile is a full editor on the phone, and a profile photo is stripped of its location data on the device before it uploads.

Between relays

Coaches can log practice from the range, on a phone. The date and time default to now, the discipline defaults to the club's last session, and the duration is worked out from the times, so logging a session takes a few taps. The coach dashboard and the match registrations console are laid out for a phone as well.

In the stands, or three states away

Families can follow an athlete in Nexus: a feed of their results, their live matches, and a notification when their relay starts. Follow requests for a young athlete go to a guardian to approve, and an athlete or guardian can share an invite link with the people they want watching.

For a public match, anyone with the link can open an athlete's page in a phone browser and watch each shot land, with the series adding up as it goes. No app or login is needed, and private matches stay behind a login.

When the range Wi-Fi drops

Ranges are not known for their signal. Nexus now opens without one, for up to seven days after your last online sign-in, and keeps the last copy of what you need readable: match registrations and results, documents and club news, the coach dashboard, and photos. Each page says how old its copy is. Changes such as a check-in need a connection, and Nexus says so instead of saving something it cannot sync.

Bring your season with you

Not every match was shot on Nexus. In Nexus Web, Import a Match takes a whole match folder exported from your scoring system, or a .zip of one. Before anything is created, you see the match and every athlete in it: prone, standing and kneeling totals, the decimal total, inner tens, and whether each athlete is already on your roster. Choose the discipline, rulebook, course of fire and Air Rifle class, then import.

Sighters stay out. A match already imported under the same name and date is refused unless you choose to replace it, and nothing is finalized until you review it. Results PDFs from MegaLink and other scoring systems still import in a batch. Either way, the match lands in each athlete's history beside the matches they shot in Nexus.

Better every week

Nexus Desktop updates itself in the background, and it did so dozens of times this month. Every update is signed and checked before it installs. Nexus Mobile for iPhone and Android is nearly ready.

Falken is in early access, and rifle programs are onboarding now. If you run a JROTC, high school, club or college program and want Nexus on match day, request early access.

You trained for this. Nexus just makes sure nothing gets lost along the way.
